Commissioning bespoke furniture

The commissioning process is a collaborative and informal dialogue. It usually begins with an enquiry or meeting, after which I’ll develop and present a series of design concepts in person. We’ll then discuss what resonates - whether it's elements of form, function, or material - so we can hone in on the final concept.

From there, I work through the technical aspects: refining proportions, selecting materials, and costing the project accurately. The final design is usually accompanied by detailed drawings or renders to help you visualise the finished work. At this stage, we’ll meet again to review the proposal, look at timber samples - perhaps walnut, oak, or ash - and explore finish and fabric options if relevant, ensuring every detail aligns with your expectations. Once everything is agreed, I’ll ask for a deposit to cover materials and begin the making process. An example case study of a commissioned piece can be found here.

My goal is always to create furniture of lasting quality - pieces that will age beautifully, serve a purpose for generations, and become future heirlooms. I generally work with solid timber, avoiding manufactured boards where possible, to ensure durability and a piece that will age gracefully, developing a glorious patina over the years to come. Whether you're looking for a vinyl record storage cabinet, a walnut desk, or a piece of wooden wall art to complement your living room décor, I take pride in crafting work that feels considered, personal, and built to last.

So whether you have a rough idea, or a more defined vision, get in touch through my contact page. I’d be very happy to talk it through with you.
