This bespoke sofa table was designed to tuck neatly over the arm of a client's sofa to provide a stable surface for a cup of coffee or a book, while occupying minimal visual and physical space within the room.
The form is deliberately simple and inviting: a curved timber profile that naturally flows from the base to the top, with rounded edges and roundovers to keep this softness - something made possible by the use of the solid timber. Shown here it has been stained to a warm, mid-tone finish, whilst preserving the natural grain of the wood. It is a very tactile piece that is a pleasure to use and rest your drink on as you relax on the sofa. Its narrow footprint allows it to sit comfortably alongside upholstered furniture without disrupting circulation or sightlines.
This sofa table was custom made to perfectly fit over the arm of an existing sofa, with its height and proportions tailored specifically to the client’s seating. Each sofa table is made to order though and can be adjusted to suit different sofa arm heights, so please get in touch.
While oak is shown here, the design can be produced in a range of hardwoods, including walnut or ash, and finished in a variety of stains or natural oils to suit the surrounding interior. This flexibility makes it ideal as a piece of bespoke furniture for clients to tailor precisely to their space.
Although modest in scale, the piece has a presence that allows it to function as more than a purely utilitarian object. As with all my work, the emphasis is on form, materials, and long-term use rather than trend-led styling.
