This sculptural side table is a piece of bespoke living room furniture designed to sit comfortably between function and form. Defined by its flowing, organic silhouette and softly rounded surfaces, it is intended as a quiet focal point within a space - practical in use, but expressive in character.
The design is built around a continuous curved support that rises from a solid base to carry two offset surfaces. The form has a sense of movement and balance, giving the table a lightness despite its solid construction. Shown here in solid oak, stained to a warm, mid-toned finish, the piece highlights the natural grain of the timber while allowing the curves to read cleanly and confidently.
This side table was originally commissioned for a riverside flat in London, where it was designed to hold photographs without interrupting views across the water. Its restrained proportions and organic form allowed it to function as both custom wood furniture and subtle living room art. The client responded so positively to the original piece that a second, taller version was immediately commissioned, leading to the table now being offered in two distinct sizes.
The low version has a maximum height of 70cm and is ideal for a low picture stand or in front of glazing, where it provides a surface without dominating the space. The taller version has a maximum height of 92cm and offers a more architectural presence, working well as a sculptural side table or occasional display surface within a larger room. Both sizes share the same flowing form and careful attention to proportion.
Each table is made to order and can be produced in a wide range of materials and finishes. While the example shown is crafted entirely from solid oak, the design lends itself equally well to other hardwoods, including utile or ash, as well as different stains or natural oil finishes depending on the desired character. Please get in touch to discuss your particular requirements as each piece will be made bespoke for you.
As with all my bespoke furniture, this piece is designed with tactility in mind. The surfaces are all rounded and finished to invite touch, and the form changes gently as light moves across it, giving the table a quiet presence that evolves throughout the day. It is an example of organic furniture that prioritises material honesty, craftsmanship, and long-term use over trend-driven design.
Whether commissioned as a standalone object or as part of a wider interior scheme, this side table reflects my approach as a bespoke furniture maker - creating custom made furniture that responds directly to its setting, its user, and the natural qualities of the materials themselves. The result is a piece of bespoke furniture that feels considered, personal, and enduring.
