This handcrafted tea box is designed as a refined and enduring object - one that elevates a simple daily ritual while offering the lasting presence of a keepsake. Made entirely by hand, it reflects a close attention to material, proportion, and detail, with each element shaped and finished to invite regular use.
Shown here in solid walnut, the box is joined using traditional dovetail joints, left visible as a quiet expression of craftsmanship. Opening the box reveals the rich aroma of the tea, a sensory detail that adds to the experience. The lid and base are lined with slate panels, chosen for their subtle texture and cool contrast to the warmth of the wood, giving the box a calm, grounded character.
While configured here as a tea box, the design is intentionally adaptable. The internal layout can be customised to suit jewellery, watches, or other precious keepsakes, making the piece particularly well suited as a bespoke wedding gift or anniversary present. Compartments can be reconfigured, resized, or removed entirely depending on how the box is intended to be used.
Each box is made to order, allowing the choice of timber, internal arrangement, and material combinations to be tailored to the client. Walnut is shown here, but the design lends itself equally well to other hardwoods, as well as alternative linings and finishes. For example, I have also made a version in oak with brown leather panels. This flexibility ensures that every piece remains personal rather than generic, shaped around its purpose and owner.
Designed to age gracefully, the tea box balances utility with sentiment. Whether given as a bespoke wedding gift or commissioned as a personal storage piece, it is intended to be handled daily and kept for years - an object that gathers meaning through use, rather than being tucked away. As with all my work, the aim is to create something considered, tactile, and quietly enduring.
