Although I now work primarily as a bespoke furniture maker, this way of life began with making wooden swings. They remain close to my heart - particularly as my own son grows up and each one carries the same care, craftsmanship, and attention to material that runs through all of my work.
 
These wooden swings are made to order using timber from my own stock, selected for strength, character, and longevity. Shown here is a two-person live-edge swing, with the natural edge of the board retained to celebrate the shape and history of the tree. The seat is generously proportioned, offering a sense of calm weight and balance when in use, whether hung from a mature tree or a dedicated frame.
 
The ropes are hand-spliced, creating a soft, tactile grip and a visually resolved finish without the need for metal fixings at hand height. A thick rope is used throughout, chosen not only for durability but for the reassuring feel it gives while swinging. Every detail is considered to ensure the swing feels safe, comfortable, and quietly beautiful.
 
While the swing shown is designed for two people, the design can be easily adapted. Single-seat swings, different lengths, alternative timber species, and subtle design changes are all possible. Personalised engraving can also be added, making the swing a meaningful gift or a lasting feature in a family garden. Installation can be arranged for an additional cost, ensuring the swing is safely and sensitively fitted within its setting.
 
Made with longevity in mind, these swings are intended to be used, weathered, and enjoyed over many years. They sit somewhere between play object and crafted furniture - simple, honest pieces shaped by material, use, and memory. Each swing is unique, reflecting both the timber it is made from and the people it is made for.
