Bespoke Furniture Maker
I am a bespoke furniture maker based near Oxford. I came to this work through a desire to make objects that last: pieces that feel considered, well crafted and engaging. Furniture that is not only functional, but rewarding to live with over time. Most of what I make is built in solid timber, shaped and joined in ways that respect the nature of the material and allow it to age with grace.
My work is rooted in an interest in form, surface, and material behaviour. I’m drawn to flowing, asymmetric shapes rather than rigid geometry, and to surfaces that invite touch as much as attention. Curves, texture, and tactility therefore play leading roles in my designs. I’m particularly interested in how light interacts with the finished pieces and how this can shift the character of a piece even over the course of a day. Building bespoke furniture means tailoring this to the situation in which it will be presented so you can expect a discussion of lighting, as well as style and character of your home.
I work primarily in solid wood, often walnut or oak, but I also incorporate other materials where they serve the idea of the piece; slate, leather, glass, and Jesmonite have all found their place in my work. Traditional joinery and careful handwork sit alongside a more sculptural, free-form approach. Projects often stem from past material exploration, whether carving, laminating, casting, or testing structure, before resolving this into a new piece.
This site shows a selection of past work, including bespoke office desks, solid walnut desks, record player cabinets, vinyl storage, and other bespoke living room furniture. Many commissions are designed around specific objects or ways of living: a turntable and valve amplifiers, a growing record collection, the daily rhythm of work at a wooden desk. These are pieces intended to last decades, to be repaired rather than replaced, and to develop a patina that reflects use and care. I aim to make furniture that will become the heirlooms of the future.
Although I am based near Oxford, I work with clients across the UK. Whether you’re commissioning a bespoke record player stand, a custom wood desk, or something more sculptural and personal, I’m always happy to discuss ideas and possibilities.
